A Lovely Connection

Do you ever just get a hunch that you feel strongly about? I was passing through a part of our state earlier this week coming back from a meeting (it was a long road trip). The area I was passing through was hilly and beautiful, with a river running through with large ravines. All of a sudden, I got this hunch that there possibly would be some great bridge to photograph. So as I explored this area like Lewis and Clark, I came across this beautiful site.

This bridge is still active, however it’s one lane with a minimum weight capacity. I did not drive over this bridge but did get out to walk upon it to get some great photographs for all of you, :). I have never been one afraid of heights, but all of a sudden with the side rails looking the way they did, I had a queasy feeling in my stomach and I had to get off the bridge. My lovely bride is not a fan of bridges with any type of wood. I don’t think she would have enjoyed this site like I did, love ya babe.

The Birds

Have you ever watched Alfred Hitchock’s “The Birds”? I was on a bridge last week shooting another bridge, and all of a sudden I looked up, oh my I thought! There were birds flying all over the place, I didn’t see that many to begin with. I instantly thought of the movie, “The Birds”, I was just waiting for an attack, but my shooting would only be with a camera.

After about 10 minutes of literally hundreds of birds flying over me, they stopped and took a rest on the bridge, whew!

A Little Find on a Walk

So last week, I was reading a friend’s blog about the store Woolworths in England that went out of business, marking an end to an era. I got thinking that I remembered as a child my grandmother taking me into a Woolworths but it was here in the states.

Last week on my photowalk, I stepped in front of this older vacant building and I did a double take. Right before my eyes, was a entrance into the building on the sidewalk that read “Woolworth”. I was amazed since I just read about that store closing in England. So I had to take some pictures for you and my friend Kevin to enjoy.

So this find is for you Kevin.

The Travelers

This shot was SOOC with the camera setting on Extra Vivid and I ran unsharp mask in photoshop, that’s it. I was going to play around with some actions but it didn’t need anything. I think it took away from the picture. So here you go.

Everything was all nice and clear with pretty much all the snow off the ground. Tomorrow is suppose to bring close to 10-12 inches of snow, ugghh. In the next day or so, I’m planning on attempting my first night shot of moving cars and my first panoramic shot, should be interesting with the snow. :)

Brick Geometry

I found the geometry of the brick to be pretty interesting in relationship to the crisp blue sky. Can you tell yet that I just love crisp blue skies? It’s really the only good thing about living in the Artic Tundra. Early cold mornings with clear skies = crisp blue skies.

The Golden Dome

The “Golden Dome” is my beloved State Capitol. I have a sincere passion and love for buildings of all shapes, sizes and textures. If one could only see and hear even half of what this building has in it’s lifetime, that would be amazing to me.

The State Capitol holds a place so dear to my heart. I remember this building as a child looking at the beauty, the strength and the detail it portrays. I honestly think this building partially lead me in the path I took professionally and I’m thankful for it :).

The Bridge to the Other Side

Isn’t it ironic…don’t you think? This big steel bridge sitting on top of wood, lol.

Have I mentioned yet how much I’m going to miss these crisp blue skies. I’ll be posting many more bridges in future posts.
